The over-arching goal of physical education at The Country School is consistent with the national standards of American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). We believe the student should develop a lifelong interest in physical activity and wellness and understand the value and contribution they make to a healthy lifestyle and productive life.

Each student receives physical education from a certified physical education teacher at least three times a week for at least 45 minutes. Kindergarten and first grade each have physical education four times a week. The classes are grouped in many different configurations. Each unit and curriculum area requires different groupings: for instance, some units are divided by boy and girl, some are co-ed, some are by ability, and some are by learning style and some to develop cooperative skills or other syllabus goals. For each group, we assess prior knowledge and plan the lessons accordingly. Skill demonstrations that use a whole-part-whole approach. In each class we attempt to clearly define three or four critical elements of the lesson. We incorporate different styles of demonstration are incorporated, such as teacher, student, videos, diagrams, etc. Further, we give appropriate skill feedback specifically related to ability-level and age appropriateness.
