Students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade meet twice a week for 45 minutes. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 meet once a week for 45 minutes.
The General Music curriculum is comprised of two main areas: performance and music appreciation. All children sing, perform rhythms on a variety of percussion instruments and are introduced to ballets, symphonic works and operas of great composers. A wide range of multi-cultural songs and music is also introduced. The rudiments of music theory are taught in order to master rhythm ensemble in lower school, recorder playing in grades 4 and 5, and handbells in grades 6,7 and 8.
Beginning at an early age, self-confidence is nurtured as students are encouraged to share their talents in class through Individual performances in singing, dancing and instrumental improvisation.
Annual fall and spring talent shows and the Upper School musical provide additional opportunities for students to showcase their talents.
