For November, The Country School is focusing on the value of responsibility at home, at school, with friends, and in the community. We will discuss obeying rules, acting responsibly, being responsible for our own behavior, and taking steps to make responsible decisions.
During this month, take time to talk to your child about what responsibility means. Tell him or her about your own experiences involving responsibility on your job or at home. Explain some of the tasks you are required to do on a daily basis, how you work as a team with other people, and how you’ve grown and become more responsible.
Here are some “table talk” topics to inspire thought-provoking conversations about responsibility.
- Which household chores do you like to do and which do you try to avoid?
- What do you think is the hardest part about being a kid and about being a parent?
- How will you know when you’re “grown-up?”
- What are the benefits of saving and of spending?
- Who has the power to shape your ideas and beliefs?
