Trustee Biographies    
Jim Francis, President    

Jim Francis is the father of two children from The Country School, Karli ‘11 and Jamie ’13. Jim currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Service Source Foundation in northern Virginia, an organization that supports programs to enhance lives of people with disabilities. Jim is currently the CEO of Chesapeake Lodging Trust, and is the former President and CEO of Highland Hospitality, an upscale lodging real estate company.  Jim's wife, Diane, was the co-chair for the 2009 Our Children, Our Stars Gala and the 2010 Diamond Gala.

Connie Alderfer, Secretary    

Connie Alderfer has two children who have attended The Country School, Evan '10 and Adam '13. She has served as President of the Parents' Association as well as Treasurer and Vice President. She has also been a room parent, auction chair and annual fund committee member. Connie worked as a Director of Human Resources for Citigroup and The American Red Cross before moving to the Eastern Shore. She is an HR consultant. Connie's husband, Marc, is a Business Manager for Clariant Corporation.

Rodanthe Hanrahan, Treasurer    

Rodanthe Hanrahan has three children who have attended The Country School: Kaley '06, Christopher '10, and Garrett '12. She is chair of the finance and investment committees and has been actively involved with the Parents' Association as a room parent and volunteer.  Rodanthe also serves as Vice President of the Board of the YMCA of Talbot County. Rodanthe holds a BSc in Energy Studies from Brown University and an MBA from Georgetown University.  Rodanthe's husband, Paul, is President and CEO of AES Corporation, a global energy company.

Jenny Benson, Parents' Association President    

Jenny is the mother of two third-generation Country School students, Gray ‘14 and Caroline ‘15. She has served as a room parent, Hospitality Chair, and Member-at-Large for the Parents' Association. Jenny presently serves as the Parents' Association President. A graduate of The University of Richmond, she is also a member of the Talbot County Garden Club, and is very involved in youth sailing. Jenny currently coordinates the Junior Sailing program at Tred Avon Yacht Club. Jenny's husband Schuyler is a local real estate professional, and a Country School alumnus.

JoAnn Asparagus    

JoAnn Asparagus is currently a Special Master for the Circuit Court for Caroline County. An attorney by training, she has served in private practice as well as in public and legal aid capacities.  JoAnn is a past Country School trustee serving from 1993-1999. She has 11 years of service as past president and board member of Talbot County Board of Education, and currently serves on the Habitat for Humanity board.  Her son “JR” graduated from The Country School in 2000.

Michael Clemmer    

Michael served on The Country School Board of Trustees from 2001-2007, and returned in 2010.  He has also been a member of the Finance Committee since 2000. He has also served as Chair of the Building and Grounds Committee. Michael is the President of Salisbury Pewter Company, and he earned his BA from the University of Richmond. He is currently the President of the American Pewter Guild and serves on the Wicomico County Tourism Advisory Council, the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce Board, and the Talbot County Economic Development Commission. He also formerly served on the Board of the United Fund of Talbot County. Michael and his wife Dina have three children: Jack ’09, Lindsey ’10, and Miles ’13.

Richard Counts    

Richard Counts has served as President of The Country School Board, as well as Treasurer; and has served three prior six-year Board terms. He is a partner at Parker, Counts, and Melton, and specializes in estate law.  Richard and his wife, Karin, are the parents of three Country School graduates: Meredith ’95, Dicken ’97, and Catherine ’00.

Colette Devine    

Colette Devine is an alumna of The Country School Class of 1979. She is Deputy Chief Compliance Officer of The AES Corporation, a global energy corporation located in Arlington, Virginia. Prior to joining AES, Colette was a corporate and securities attorney with Hogan & Hartson in Washington, DC. She received her law degree from University of Virginia, a Masters degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard University, and a Bachelors degree from Georgetown University. Colette lives in Bethesda with her husband, Adrian Kutko, and their two daughters.

Sarah Donnelly    

Sarah Donnelly retired after 20 years as Executive Director of AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland Schools). Prior to that, she taught math for 20 years!  Sarah is a past member of the Board of Ginger Cove in Annapolis, a former Clerk of Session of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, and current Vice Moderator of the Baltimore Presbytery.  She is a graduate of Wellesley College with an MS in mathematics from Bowling Green State University.  Sarah's husband, Jim, was Headmaster of The Severn School for 11 years.

William Duncan    

Buck Duncan is the CEO and President of The Talbot Bank of Easton. Previously he was the CEO and President of the St. Michaels Bank. Buck has served on many local boards, including Academy of the Arts, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, YMCA of Talbot County, Shore Health Systems, Talbot County Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Easton, Talbot Hospice Foundation, and the United Fund.  Buck and his wife, Lynne, live in Easton, and are Country School grandparents.

Bradley V. Hill '86    
Brad is a partner in the Hill Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, which consists of 9 members who comprise over 100 years of experience. The Hill Group manages over $825 million in assets and is registered in 37 states.  He was recognized in December 2006 by On Wall Street as one of the Top Advisors Under 40. Additionally for 2011 Barron’s magazine ranks the Hill Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as one of the Top 5 Advisors in Maryland.  Brad and his wife, Allison, have three children, Grace, Jane and John and reside in Easton, MD. Brad is a director of CASA of Talbot County and is a past president of the Talbot County YMCA. Brad has also served as the Treasurer of the Talbot County Country Club and the Talbot County YMCA. Additionally, Brad has served as an ordained Deacon and as the Finance Committee Chair of First Baptist Church.
 
Richard B. Hoff '83    
Rick Hoff is the President of the Hoff Companies, which owns and operates McDonald’s restaurants in Maryland and Delaware. Rick is an alumnus of Country School, as well as St. James School in Hagerstown, where he sits on the Alumni Council, and Towson State University. In his eighteen years with McDonald’s, Rick has served on many regional and national committees and held leadership positions in the areas of marketing/advertising, supply chain, and operations. Rick’s wife Christina is the co-chair of the 2012 Gala. Their daughter Anna is in first grade and their son Corey entered kindergarten in September 2011.
 
Maulik Joshi    

Maulik S. Joshi, Dr. P.H. is President of the Health Research & Educational Trust and Senior Vice President at the American Hospital Association. Maulik has a Doctor of Public Health and a Masters in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Lafayette College. He is co-editor of The Healthcare Quality Book: Vision, Strategy and Tools, a graduate level textbook, and author of Healthcare Transformation: A Guide for the Hospital Board Member.  Maulik is a member of the Board of Trustees Quality and Patient Safety Committee for Catholic Healthcare Partners, the Board of Governors for the National Patient Safety Foundation, and Treasurer of the Board for the Center for Advancing Health.

Maulik lives in Easton with his wife, Emilie, who is an active volunteer for the school.  Emilie currently serves as Secretary for the Parents' Association. They have two children who attend The Country School - Ella '13 and Lucas '15.

Sharon Liu    

Sharon is a physician and partner with Mid-Shore Women’s Health. Specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Maryland and her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has served in volunteer leadership roles in the medical community and for the Memorial Hospital Foundation. Sharon and her husband John Serino, an orthodontist in our community, have two children: Grace ’18 and Dean ’19.

Charles Mangold    

Chuck, a Talbot County resident since the age of nine, attended Saints Peter and Paul elementary and high schools before receiving his associate's degree in accounting from Chesapeake College and later attended Loyola College in Baltimore. He works with Benson & Mangold Real Estate. Chuck is currently a board member for several organizations, including the United Fund of Talbot County, the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce, and Habitat for Humanity, Choptank. Chuck and his wife Lauren have three sons: Charlie ’14, and twins Peter and Robert.

Brad Messenger    

Brad is a Division Manager/Vice President for NVR, Inc. t/a Ryan Homes, the company he has been with since 1989. His undergraduate degree in business and finance is from Mount St. Mary’s College and his master’s in real estate is from Johns Hopkins. Brad has served on The Country School’s Building and Grounds Committee and has also been a solicitor for the Cougar Fund. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Easton, is a board member of Habitat for Humanity Choptank, a vestry member of Christ Church Easton, and a coach and board member with Talbot County Lacrosse. Brad and his wife Laura have two children: Julia ’15 and Matt ’18.

Mark Oliphant    

Mark is Chief Information and Operating Officer at Global Impact. Global Impact is dedicated to helping the world’s most vulnerable people by raising awareness and funds for more than 50 of the most respected US-based international charities. Prior to his recent position, Mark had a successful 15 year career at Fannie Mae and 10 year career at GE Aerospace.  Mark and his wife, Dr. Kate Meyer, are the parents of two Country School students, Max ‘13 and John Henry ‘11.  Mark has chaired the Cougar Fund committee since 2010, and Kate is parent liaison of The Country School athletic committee.

Brett Summers    

Brett Summers is founding partner of NOVO Development Corporation in Washington, D.C. He is responsible for acquisition, finance, and asset management for a 1,500 unit multi-family residential portfolio located in Cambridge, Maryland; Chicago; Charleston; Philadelphia; and Washington, D.C. Prior to 2000 Brett marketed for lease commercial office buildings in Northern Virginia.

Brett has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Public Policy Study from Duke University. He lives in Cambridge with his wife Jamie, who has served as room parent and in many other volunteer roles for the Parents' Association. They have three children: Taylor '09, Perry '12, and Ryan '15.

Brett currently sits on the Buildings and Grounds committee.
