What Do We Do in Advisory?

All Upper School Advisories meet on Thursdays during the extended lunch period. The Whittier/Frederick Advisory meets in Ms. Whittier's room, #11.

Throughout the year we will post on this page our schedule for upcoming HOHO trips, advisory activities, and topics for discussion.

    Our HOHO Projects

The Whittier/Frederick Advisory has two year-long projects for the "Helping Others, Helping Ourselves" community service program. We plan to make three trips for each project throughout the year.

    The Healing Garden

The Healing Garden is a small park in Easton next to the entrance to the Easton Club. Its purpose is to honor children of any age who have died, because everyone is somebody's child. There are many trees and plants planted in memory of specific children, as well as engraved bricks and benches that parents can dedicate to their lost loved ones.

We work in conjunction with the administrators of the Garden to assist in the physical labor of maintaining the Garden's beauty and peaceful setting. Weeding, raking, planting, and general clean-up allow us to literally "get our hands dirty" while reaching out to members of the community for whom this Garden is a cherished place. We also make butterflies for use in the Garden's annual remembrance service, so that parents can place a butterfly in memory of their child in one of the Garden's beautiful trees.

    The Benedictine School

The Benedictine School in Ridgely is a boarding and day school for developmentally disabled students up to the age of 21. Several times throughout the school year, we visit our Benedictine "friends" and host some sort of activity for them. This might include Christmas caroling, an indoor "Game Day," or an ice cream social.

We will also invite them to come to The Country School to see the selected scenes from the Upper School musical.
