Stop Together and Read (STAR) is a 20-minute period immediately following homeroom and advisory in which the entire Country School community reads independently. Normalizing and encouraging reading for fun has led to children as young as 2nd grade having conversations among themselves about their books, and reading logs kept by Lower School students add up to hundreds and sometimes thousands of minutes per year of independent reading.

Because the primary purpose of reading is comprehension, our teachers work diligently to engage their students in the active process of constructing meaning from what they read in order to develop competent and enthusiastic readers.
