Philosophy & Value

Athletics at The Country School are an extension of the classroom—rooted in the same values of respect, perseverance, teamwork, and personal growth. Our goal is to foster a love of physical activity while building character and resilience in every student-athlete.

We believe that participation in sports develops not only physical skills but also leadership, empathy, and confidence. Whether students are trying a sport for the first time or competing at a high level, we emphasize effort, sportsmanship, and commitment.

Athletics should be fun, inclusive, and challenging. We encourage our athletes to push their limits, support one another, and take pride in representing their school and community.

Program Structure

Our athletic program offers a range of team sports across three seasons for students in grades 5–8. Students have the opportunity to participate in both competitive and developmental teams, based on their experience and interests. We aim to provide every student with the chance to learn, improve, and enjoy the benefits of team participation, regardless of prior experience.

Coaching Philosophy

Our coaches are mentors, educators, and role models. They guide student-athletes through positive reinforcement, skill development, and a team-first mentality. We aim to teach the game—but more importantly, we teach how to work hard, support others, and bounce back from adversity.

Coaches at The Country School prioritize:

  • Safety and inclusion
  • Clear and honest communication
  • Balanced competition and growth
  • Respect for opponents and officials

Student Expectations

Country School athletes are expected to:

  • Demonstrate integrity, responsibility, and commitment
  • Communicate respectfully with teammates and coaches
  • Attend all practices and games unless excused
  • Strive for personal and team improvement
  • Embrace both winning and losing with grace

Above all, we ask our athletes to lead by example—on the field, on campus, and in the community.
