TCS Selects Carney Sandoe as Consultant for Head of School Search

After reviewing seven proposals and interviewing four consultants, the Search Committee has selected Carney Sandoe & Associates to lead the search for our new Head of School.
After reviewing seven proposals and interviewing four consultants, the Search Committee has selected Carney Sandoe & Associates to assist us in the process of finding a new Head of School for July 2020. Carney Sandoe & Associates is a leading national firm specializing identification of exceptional leaders and senior administrators for independent schools. The first step in this journey will be for our specific consultants, Rice Bryan and Charlie Britton, to visit our school on Monday May 20th and Tuesday May 21st. The goal of the visit is to gain a sense of the Country School's culture and to start a discussion about the attributes of a Head of School that are important to our school. At this time the consultants will meet with Neil Mufson, the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and a group of 5th to 8th grade students. The out-takes of these discussions will enable the consultants and the search committee to start developing school and candidate profiles that are the foundations of the search process.

We cannot over emphasize the importance to this process of the discussions with the school community regarding the school's future priorities and in describing a profile of a desired leader. Therefore, Rice and Charlie will return after the start of school in the fall to continue this process and to meet with parents and other community constituents. We want everyone to have an opportunity to be a part of our search process.

To keep our school community informed about the search process, we will be adding a page to our website dedicated to the Head of School Search. You will be able to check for updates to the process and to review the background materials we develop as well as review the resumes of our consultants and find their contact information.

Thank you,
John Hockmeyer and Richard Ward Co-chairs of the Search Committee

  • About Carney, Sandoe & Associates:
Carney, Sandoe & Associates was founded in 1977. The mission of our executive search practice has always been to help independent schools find the best possible people to lead their institutions. We do this by tapping into our extensive network, both in and out of the independent school sector, drawing on our professional expertise, and following our thorough process. We are known in our field for bringing our clients the very best candidates for their needs. Over 1,550 client schools have retained us to conduct successful executive searches for heads of school and other top administrators. We are responsible for the recruitment and placement of more people into independent school leadership and teaching positions than any other such firm in the country, and we have
been conducting searches for 39 consecutive years, longer than any other single firm. We have done a significant amount of search work in the Mid-Atlantic States and across the U.S. and Abroad. We would certainly see The Country School as deserving a national and international recruitment effort!
The CS&A consultants are dedicated exclusively to conducting executive searches for school heads and high-level administrators. They share many years of experience in school leadership positions as heads, senior administrators, trustees, and parent volunteers. Some bring experience from public schools and the private sector; all have served with distinction in professional educational associations and non-profit enterprises. One of our guiding principles is that no consultant will do more work than he or she can do well.
