The National Spanish Exam is a motivational contest to recognize student achievement and to promote language proficiency in the study of Spanish. The exams are administered to students in grades 7-12, given voluntarily by about 4,000 middle and high school teachers throughout the United States.

From 1957 until 2005, the National Spanish Examinations were administered on paper. Beginning in 2006, the NSE became the first national world language exam administered online and is the most widely used test of Spanish in the United States. In the spring of 2020, a total of 140,000 students registered for the National Spanish Examinations.

“It’s always exciting to see all our hard work pay off,” says Spanish teacher Tori Lang. “These students elect to take on this extra opportunity and they work independently to prepare for the exam. I’m proud of the achievements of our group in 2020.”
