Patti Godlee Featured in What's Up? Eastern Shore

By: Annie Hasselgren
Kindergarten teacher Patti Godlee appears in this month's "2017 Teachers to Watch & Private School Guide" by What's Up? Eastern Shore.
Kudos to Patti Godlee, who was featured in this month’s What’s Up? Eastern Shore “2017 Teachers to Watch and Private School Guide.” Patti has been guiding Country School kindergarteners through their inaugural year for 21 years and continues to be a source of inspiration and positivity for her students, families, and colleagues.

Patti named her proudest teaching moments as those when she sees “a struggling student work diligently and persevere through assignments and never give up.” She says, “I tell my students that when we make mistakes, our brains are growing and we are learning. I knew that I had created a climate of warmth and safety when one day, while at the whiteboard and I made a mistake, I heard a little voice say, ‘Good job, Mrs. Godlee, you made a mistake. You’re getting smarter!’”

Patti also spoke in the article about her teaching philosophy: to generate excitement and enthusiasm for learning by keeping in fun. Her students can attest to that! She also sings the praises of the role play serves in early education and how “finding a balance between instructional time and time for play” is so critical to a kindergartener’s stage of development.

“Not only is Patti an expert on child development and early childhood education, she is also a master at knowing how to reach each child and craft the perfect approach to allow each to blossom and thrive,” says Mr. Mufson. “Patti’s students know she loves them and see that, in her care, their potential is unlimited.”

Many thanks to Patti for sharing her wisdom, grace, and nurturing way with her students and with us. Here’s to 21 more years!
