Art terms, various media, and techniques that encourage creative expression in the visual form are integral parts of the art curriculum. While creating art is important, the program also emphasizes the development of the children’s awareness of both natural and man-made objects in their environment. Students are able to more easily distinguish beauty, recognize good quality design, and acquire a greater appreciation of their visual world by studying the elements and principles of art.
Students in the Lower School are introduced to a variety of media and techniques, are exposed to great artists and their works, and are encouraged to be self-expressive. In the Upper School, students are involved in a more in-depth study of art appreciation while they are allowed more independence and flexibility in their choices of media and materials.
