Learning Specialist Resources

The Country School has a Learning Specialist who provides support to students in need of various accommodations that may be necessary due to difficulty with some aspect of learning, These needs may be put into a Testing Summary and Recommendation (TSR) that teachers use to provide any needed accommodations or modifications.  The Learning Specialist works with parents to educate them about their child’s needs and to partner with them to work toward student success. The Learning Specialist also works with faculty members on student referrals, as well as providing pedagogical and assessment techniques that can help students experiencing difficulty.

The Learning Specialist may offer small group or individualized instruction to students as needed for remediation or differentiated instruction.  Supporting the needs of students who have been identified as gifted, providing appropriate materials and resources to teachers and families to appropriately challenge them in their learning is also an important part of the Learning Specialists role.

The Learning Specialist is the liaison with tutors who may be providing additional academic support to a student, and along with the School Counselors, also coordinates with parents, teachers, and outside evaluators when students are recommended for more extensive testing.  The Learning Specialist also participates on the Admissions and Retention Committees to provide a specific perspective on the learning needs of prospective students and the ability of the school to support those needs.
