Arts

Every student’s academic experience is deeply enriched by our outstanding drama, art, and music programs. Our visual arts curriculum teaches fundamental techniques in a variety of media fostering creativity, patience, process, and passion that will help to enrich their lives forever.  Our music curriculum develops a love and understanding of music through listening, theory, and learning to play instruments.

Creative expression and building awareness of both natural and man-made objects in their environment are important goals of the art program. Students learn to more easily distinguish beauty, recognize good quality design, and acquire a greater appreciation of their visual world by studying the elements and principles of art within it.

Primarily focusing on the elements of art, students in the Lower School are introduced to a variety of media and techniques, are exposed to great artists and their works, and are encouraged to be self-expressive. They are given the opportunity to share ideas and understand how to critique and complement other students' work. In the Upper School, students continue with a more in-depth study of art appreciation and are given more independence and flexibility in their choices of media and materials to express themselves.

Some students will discover a budding talent, but all will leave with a deep appreciation for the arts.
