Cougar Fund

Whether you are a student, parent, grandparent, alum, parent of an alum, staff member, or just a friend of The Country School, you know that The Country School is a special community. That sense of community exists because of:

  • The teachers and their passion for making learning not only rigorous but also fun and relevant so that every student feels engaged and successful
  • Efforts, like the 40 Book Challenge and community-wide composting, that develop habits of lifelong learning within our students
  • Intentional opportunities for students to take risks in a safe and supportive environment
  • Nine Core Values that are embedded into all we do to develop honest, respectful, responsible, compassionate, generous, committed, cooperative, fair, and morally courageous students who strive to do their best always.
  • Community building activities like our K-8 buddy program, outdoor education, Dorothy Andrew Day, and our Helping Others, Helping Ourselves community service program.
  • Opportunities for students to explore their strengths and talents outside the classroom through athletics, chorus, the play, clubs, and other extra-curricular opportunities.
  • Arts and STEM programs that are a priority rather than afterthought

These are the hallmarks of the Country School experience. The Cougar Fund makes this experience a reality each day.

Answering Key Questions About the Cougar Fund

List of 5 items.

  • What is the Cougar Fund?

The Cougar Fund is The Country School’s annual giving campaign. It provides you, as a member of our Country School community, with the opportunity to support philanthropically the educational experience we provide our students every day.

Providing the high quality and uniquely special Country School experience requires resources that flow from several different sources. While the largest revenue stream supporting the education of our students is tuition, tuition alone does not cover the full cost of a Country School education. The Cougar Fund is a critical component of the revenue streams required to support the true cost of educating our students.
  • Where does my Cougar Fund gift go?

Your gift to the Cougar Fund supports The Country School’s operating budget, which funds all elements of a Country School education, including:

    • Compensation for our talented and inspiring teachers
    • Equipment and supplies for classroom instruction
    • Upgrades to technology
    • Professional development to support faculty and staff growth
    • Campus and facilities maintenance
    • Curricular innovation
    • Financial assistance to support a diverse and inclusive learning environment

While we appreciate unrestricted gifts that enable us to put your gift to use where it is needed most, you may also choose to designate your gift to academic programs, faculty and staff development, athletics, or financial assistance.
  • Who gives to the Cougar Fund?

The Cougar Fund is a true Country School community effort that is supported by students, parents, grandparents, alums, parents of alums, and friends in the community who are being or have been touched by the Country School. And those donors give at a variety of different levels. Our faculty and staff and trustees historically have 100% participation in giving to the Cougar Fund.

Whether you can give $10 or $10,000, your gift makes a difference and we hope you will be part of The Country School’s philanthropic community this year.
  • I’m excited about giving back for our community. How can I give to the Cougar Fund?

Giving is easy. In the coming weeks, you will receive a Cougar Fund letter in the mail that will include a donation envelope. You can return that donation envelope with your check or cash. Or, you can indicate your desire to pledge, and we will send you reminders to fulfill your pledge by June 30, 2022.

You can also give online via credit card at www.countryschool.org/giving or via the Venmo ID @Country-School.

Donors to the Cougar Fund are recognized for their generosity in our fall annual report.

If you have any questions about how to make your gift, please contact Elizabeth Hackett at ehackett@countryschool.org or 410-822-1935 ext. 129.
  • Why should I support the Cougar Fund?

Every dollar given to the Cougar Fund goes toward creating, maintaining, and expanding The Country School experience that you and your family knows and loves. As one donor with a long history of giving to The Country School says:
“The Country School is in my blood! I cannot imagine being part of any other school community and cannot imagine not making my gift to the Cougar Fund each year. Whether I consider TCS from my perspective as an alum, the parent of alums, or as a faculty member, I wholeheartedly believe in everything TCS has done and continues to do to provide an invaluable educational experience for generations of students. Even though I may not know exactly where my unrestricted gift to the Cougar Fund goes, I know it contributes to providing that invaluable educational experience.”
