Upper School Head Search
As a follow up to my recent email to all families, I wanted to sketch out the search process we will follow as we set out to appoint our next Upper School Head.
Since John first told me of his search for a Head of School position, I have been fine-tuning the job description. A nearly complete draft has been circulated to national and regional search firms and shared with local and in-house candidates. In the next couple of weeks, students, faculty, parents, and trustees will all have an opportunity to offer input into the qualities we should be seeking in the successful candidate. As I previously announced, the parent session will be Wednesday, December 10 at 8:15 in the library. Once that list of qualities is generated and distilled, the job description will be revised as appropriate.
I am also in the process of forming four search advisory committees: faculty, students, parents, and trustees. I have already been gathering and reviewing resumes. Later this week the faculty advisory committee will meet, and I will share the top eight or so resumes that I feel present the strongest chance of a great match. These candidates will already have indicated an interest in pursuing our position. Before holiday break, the faculty committee will share with me their input on these candidates, and I will then select a number of them to come to school in early January for a one day visit. This group will be our semi-finalists.
During the one day visits, which will be complete by January 23, I hope, candidates will meet with each advisory committee and that committee will offer me their input. In addition during those visits, semi-finalists will meet with the Upper School faculty, the administrative team, John, Susie, and me. There may be additional meetings then as well.
Once I receive everyone’s input on the semi-finalists, I will select a small group of finalists, most likely a group of between one and three candidates. Finalists will return to school in late January and early February for a longer visit during which there will be opportunities for all parents and other groups to meet, ask questions of, and hear from the candidates.
After weighing input from anyone who would like to offer it, I hope to select our next Upper School Head by the fourth week in February. While this schedule is ambitious and may stretch out a bit because of contingencies like weather or candidate availability, I feel confident that we will find a great candidate who will join us in July as The Country School’s next Upper School Head.

Kindergarten Students Serving Others!
Kindergarteners have been participating in a 3 part HOHO (Helping Others; Helping Ourselves) project lead by Ferris and Laura Butler. Students packed boxes to be shipped to veterans and their families. The boxeswere filled with child friendly, donated items. Also in the boxes were handwritten letters from the students along with a handmade American flag craft. The Butlers carefully orchestrated this project, and we are very grateful for their time and efforts. -
Spring Athletic Award Winners
Congratulations to all our spring athletics award winners and to all our Cougar athletes who participated in sports and clubs! This spring, TCS offered Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse, Pickleball Club, Running Club, and Volleyball Club. Providing so many athletic opportunities took a village—thank you to our amazing coaches, volunteers, and parent drivers for making it all possible!
