What Roald Dahl Can Teach Us About Family
Music director Rick Osborne spoke to the school at Assembly this week about the lessons Roald Dahl's "James and the Giant Peach" can teach us about families and the unique -- and sometimes unexpected -- structures of them.
For me, the story of “James and the Giant Peach” is more than just a fun children’s book. I believe that Roald Dahl communicates a very important message about happy, successful families. James finds love and acceptance form his insect friends living inside the giant peach.
As readers, we learn that families can come in surprisingly different forms and styles. A family right have one parent or the parents might live in different homes. A family might have two moms or two dads, or af family might have children who are adopted. What creates a happy family is a home where we find love, respect, compassion, patience, and cooperation. You may notice that many of these qualities I mentioned are Country School values. Over the years, I have heard many people say that The country School feels like a family to them. This is because our school is a place where both grown ups and children can experience the same wonderful values that create happy, healthy families.
I hope you will take the opportunity to read Roald Dahl’s book about a boy who refuses to give up on himself and then learns that sometimes our friends and families are the ones who help us discover the very best in ourselves.

Kindergarten Students Serving Others!
Kindergarteners have been participating in a 3 part HOHO (Helping Others; Helping Ourselves) project lead by Ferris and Laura Butler. Students packed boxes to be shipped to veterans and their families. The boxeswere filled with child friendly, donated items. Also in the boxes were handwritten letters from the students along with a handmade American flag craft. The Butlers carefully orchestrated this project, and we are very grateful for their time and efforts. -
Spring Athletic Award Winners
Congratulations to all our spring athletics award winners and to all our Cougar athletes who participated in sports and clubs! This spring, TCS offered Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse, Pickleball Club, Running Club, and Volleyball Club.
