Country School 8th Grader Wins Essay Contest
Eighth grader Damian René is honored by the VFW for his essay on honoring the American flag.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Easton, MD - December 18, 2018) — Country School eighth graders entered a local writing contest sponsored by the VFW, with this year's theme being: "Why I honor the American flag." Of the 80 essays submitted in our district, Damian René was the winner.
It was Damian’s thoughtful and articulate writing that captured the attention of contest judges and won him $100 and the honor of being recognized and appreciated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Damian writes: “The American flag should be honored because it stands for courage, vigilance and perseverance. It honors the men and women who died in the line of the duty, veterans, and the ones currently serving the country and overseas … [It] also stands for positive ideas and values [such as] justice, perseverance, and valor … [and] as Mark Twain said, ‘Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it.’ Presidents will come and go, but the ideas and values of the flag and the country will not cease to exist. We show respect to the flag not to concentrate on our disagreements, but on what unites us as citizens of The United States of America.”

Kindergarten Students Serving Others!
Kindergarteners have been participating in a 3 part HOHO (Helping Others; Helping Ourselves) project lead by Ferris and Laura Butler. Students packed boxes to be shipped to veterans and their families. The boxeswere filled with child friendly, donated items. Also in the boxes were handwritten letters from the students along with a handmade American flag craft. The Butlers carefully orchestrated this project, and we are very grateful for their time and efforts. -
Spring Athletic Award Winners
Congratulations to all our spring athletics award winners and to all our Cougar athletes who participated in sports and clubs! This spring, TCS offered Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse, Pickleball Club, Running Club, and Volleyball Club. Providing so many athletic opportunities took a village—thank you to our amazing coaches, volunteers, and parent drivers for making it all possible!
