Science

A basic understanding of the areas of ecology, earth, life, physical, and health science is the goal of the science program. The hands-on nature of the program ensures a child-centered approach that stresses following directions, making predictions, assessing results, and drawing conclusions. There are two main focuses of the program: learning to problem-solve by using available resources and testing theories through hands-on activities and laboratory investigation.

In the Lower and Upper School science labs, students have a wide variety of tools and equipment available; microscopes, physical and digital balances, and full wet science laboratory spaces. Classes often incorporate skills from the areas of reading, writing, and math. Students move at a challenging pace and are encouraged to develop their own interests in the areas of science and technology. Science specialists are the core of our science instruction.

The addition of a Maker Space is an exciting addition to the science landscape, offering a 3D printer, numerous opportunities for coding and STEM projects, and accessible to teachers of all disciplines. This complements the living laboratory of our science courtyard and gardens.
